The Working at Height and Harness Awareness training course is designed to provide candidates with the essential knowledge and skills, to safely perform tasks whilst working at height. Training is provided to help prevent falls, one of the leading causes of workplace injuries and fatalities. The course emphasizes the importance utilising the hierarchy of controls to avoid, prevent or mitigate the consequences of a fall. Safety is achieved and maintained through use of collective or personal fall prevention equipment, adherence to regulations and compliance with workplace safety policies and procedures.

Course Content

The training course covers the following key areas:

  1. Introduction to Working at Height:
    • Overview of relevant legislation and regulations (e.g. Work at Height Regulations 2005).
    • Definition and scope of working at height.
    • Common hazards and risks associated with working at height.
  2. Risk Assessment and Planning:
    • Conducting thorough risk assessments before starting work at height.
    • Identifying and evaluating potential hazards.
    • Developing safe work plans and emergency procedures.
  3. Fall Protection Systems:
    • Types of fall protection systems (e.g., guardrails, safety nets, personal fall arrest systems).
    • Selection criteria for appropriate fall protection systems.
    • Installation and use of temporary and permanent fall protection systems.
  4. Harness Awareness:
    • Types of harnesses and their specific applications.
    • Proper fitting and adjustment of harnesses.
    • Inspection and maintenance of harnesses to ensure safety and compliance.
  5. Using Ladders and Scaffolding:
    • Safe use of ladders, including positioning and securing.
    • Mobile tower scaffolding & tube and fitting scaffold including inspection requirements.
    • Understanding load limits and stability.
  6. Rescue Procedures:
    • Developing and implementing rescue plans.
    • Importance of timely and effective rescue operations to mitigate suspension trauma.

Knowledge

A good understanding of spoken, reading, and writing English.

Qualifications Obtained

Participants are assessed by multiple choice test to ensure they have achieved the required competency level. Successful candidates receive a Bridgend Training certificate upon completion, which is valid for 3 years and meets industry standards for working at height.

Entry Requirements

We will carry out a profile assessment to determine the duration of training required for those with limited or no experience.

Location

Training can be conducted onsite or at the Bridgend Training Facility.
