The Abrasive Wheels Safety Training course is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely mount, operate and maintain abrasive wheels & associated equipment. This comprehensive course covers the legal requirements, safety procedures, and best practice to be employed whilst using abrasive wheels. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of the hazards associated with abrasive wheels and learn how to mitigate the risks by implementing suitable handling, storage, and usage techniques and wearing the correct PPE.

    • Relevant health and safety regulations HASWA 74, PUWER 98, MHSW 99
    • Employer and employee responsibilities
    • Industry standards and best practice
  3. Hazards and Risk Assessment:
    • Conducting risk assessments
    • Identify potential hazards
    • Implement control measures
  4. Selection and Use of Abrasive Wheels:
    • Different types of abrasive wheels and their uses
    • Selecting the correct wheel for the task
    • Safe handling, transport and storage
  5. Inspection and Maintenance:
    • Pre-use inspection procedures
    • Identifying defects and damage
    • Maintenance and replacement guidelines
  6. Mounting:
    • Wheel selection
    • Correct mounting procedures
    • Ensuring secure and stable installation
  7. Safe Operating Procedures:
    • Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
    • Safe operating techniques
    • Emergency procedures and fire prevention
  8. Practical Demonstrations and Exercises:
    • Hands-on practice with abrasive wheels, Angle Grinder & Cut off Saw (1 day)

By adhering to best practice and safety procedures in this course, participants can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and injuries in the workplace, ensuring a safer and more productive work environment.

Qualifications Obtained

Participants will be assessed through a combination of practical exercises and a multiple-choice test. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a Bridgend Training certificate of competency in Abrasive Wheels Safety, valid for 3 years.

Entry Requirements

We will carry out a profile assessment to determine the duration of training required for those with limited or no experience.

Location

Training can be conducted onsite or at the Bridgend Training Facility.
