N722: Material Re- Handler

To provide the delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to safely and efficiently operate a Material Re- Handler.

This course is suitable for both experienced operators and novices.

To provide knowledge and understanding in the following areas:
Have a basic understanding of the industry, the dangers of working in the industry and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
Have a working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the particular machine to be used.
Be able to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
Be able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain their functions.
Conduct all pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer’s and legislative requirements.
Safely mount and dismount the machine.
Start and stop the engine and safely move the machine off and stop it safely.
Configure the machine for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain in open and
confined areas.
Conduct all necessary safety checks at the work area.
Manoeuvre the machine to the work area and correctly configure in readiness to carry out
processing tasks.
Carry out processing task.
Load material onto transporting vehicles, containers or processing plant.
Fit and remove attachments.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of loading and unloading procedures for
machine transportation.
Carry out all end of shift and shut down procedures.

A good understanding of spoken, reading, and writing English.

NPORS Card – route dependant.

We will carry out a profile assessment to determine the duration of training required for those with limited or no experience.

Training can be conducted onsite or at the Bridgend Training Facility.

Existing NPORS Card Holder – No (S)NVQ Held

For operators who do not currently hold the requisite (S)NVQ, a Trained Operator card will be issued, which is valid for two years from the date of application.
During this two-year period, operators will be required to register for and achieve the requisite (S)NVQ with the unit credits applicable to the categories of plant stated on their Trained Operator card.

Existing NPORS Card Holder – (S)NVQ Held

Operators who currently hold the requisite (S)NVQ with the unit credits applicable to the categories of plant stated on their NPORS card will be issued a Competent Operator card, valid for five years from the date of application.
Operators in receipt of the Competent Operator card will also be issued a CPD record/operator logbook. This will serve as an ongoing record of that operator’s continuous professional development and their operating hours in the workplace.

NPORS (Traditional) Operator Card

For those who operate in industry sectors other than construction and are not subject to the requirement to hold an operator card bearing the CSCS logo, NPORS has retained its traditional operator card.
The standards applied to this route and the methods of achievement are exactly the same as those applied to the NPORS / CSCS operator card route. However, the NPORS traditional card does not bear the CSCS logo, as non-construction industry sectors generally do not have the same requirements as the construction sector, i.e., trained operator card – VQ achievement – competent operator card.
End users have the option to select three or five-year registrations for this card, depending on any sector-specific or in-company requirements.

N.B. For those operating in the construction sector, the NPORS / CSCS card route should be followed.
