New Roads & Streetworks – Supervisors

Description

To enable Supervisors to gain the necessary qualifications under the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991, the training will cover all aspects required to perform duties on the public highway. This includes tasks related to excavation and the permanent reinstatement of paved structures.

 

 

Who Should Attend?

To comply with the law, there must be a qualified supervisor available to oversee the work being undertaken in the relevant aspect. This ensures that all operations are conducted in accordance with legal requirements and industry standards.

Course Content

Candidates will participate in both theory lessons and practical demonstrations/exercises, supported by the use of OHP and videos, covering the following topics:

 

  • New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991
  • Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations
  • Other current relevant regulations
  • Interpretation of plans
  • Safe working practices
  • Identification of apparatus
  • Excavation techniques
  • Disposal of surplus material
  • Repositioning of kerbs and edgings
  • Use of cable location equipment
  • Reinstatement of the road structure
  • Reinstatement of modular footpaths
  • Use of temporary traffic lights
  • Implications of damage to apparatus
  • Layout of signs, cones, and barriers
  • Surface finishing
  • Re-use of selected excavated material

Knowledge

 

  • Acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to fulfill the duties required by the Roads and Street Works Act 1991.
  • Supervise operatives effectively to ensure that reinstatement and related activities meet the required quality standards.
  • Understand and comply with responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant current legislation.

Qualifications Obtained

The SWQR card, valid for 5 years, will be awarded to individuals who successfully complete the NRSW assessments.

Entry Requirements

Pre-Requisites: Candidates must have a strong understanding of spoken and written English. This course is intended for individuals with prior experience, as it is primarily an assessment or test.
